Our verdict

8.7Very good

JURA's dual-grinder flagship for continuous commercial operation – 32 specialities, TÜV-certified hygiene and P.E.P. brewing method. The revised Generation II (2023, Type 748/749) increases to 2700 W and 32 specialities; any buyer should always verify the generation. Strongest argument: turnkey package combining quality, hygiene and an active JURA service network – a genuine investment that pays off at ≥ 80 cups/day.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Dual-grinder architecture with 2 ceramic disc burr grinders and A.G.A. Technology – true parallel processing, no manual grind adjustment required
  • TÜV-certified hygiene via One-Touch milk cleaning: the system automatically flushes lines after every milk drink, without operator intervention
  • Active JURA service network across DACH; ecoGrade B through efficient 2-thermoblock system with configurable eco mode
  • P.E.P. (Pulse Extraction Process) optimises short extractions; 4.3" touchscreen, J.O.E. App integration and Pocket Pilot 2.0 for remote control

Cons

  • Payment Connect (MDB payment) is a paid optional module – not included in base price, despite being essential for self-service sites
  • X8 with 5-litre tank requires multiple daily refills at > 100 cups/day; X8c (fixed-water) is then clearly the better choice

Review

Design & Build

The JURA GIGA X8 is the professional flagship of the Zug-based Swiss brand for commercial use. With a housing of high-grade aluminium and ABS plastic, the machine measures 37 × 56.5 × 49.7 centimetres (W × H × D) and weighs approximately 19 kilograms – compact for the performance delivered, but definitely not a one-person carry. Platinum (silver-grey) is the standard finish; variants with black accents are also available.

Buyers should always check the generation: Generation I (pre-2022) operated with three thermoblock heating systems, 1600 watts and 29 specialities. Generation II (from 2023, Type 748 for the GIGA X8 with internal 5-litre tank, Type 749 for the GIGA X8c with fixed-water connection G3/8") underwent fundamental revision – it features two thermoblock systems, 2700 watts rated power and 32 specialities. Generation I and II look similar; always check the type number when buying used.

Also important: JURA sells under the name "X8" a smaller machine (1 ceramic burr grinder, approx. 80 cups/day, private use). The GIGA X8 is the completely different, professional unit with two grinders and 200 cups/day. Confusion risk exists when researching the model name without "GIGA".

The basic architecture follows the JURA professional schema: the 4.3-inch touchscreen is slightly angled and easy to read, the left and right bean hoppers each hold 650 grams, the grounds container holds 40 pucks, and the drip tray is generously sized. Cup height can be adjusted via the height-adjustable outlet to accommodate up to two cups simultaneously. Overall, the GIGA X8 presents as a machine where nothing has been stripped away – not in materials, not in functionality.

Technology & Features

The technical heart of the GIGA X8 is its dual-grinder and dual-heating-system architecture. Two ceramic disc burr grinders operate in parallel and independently – this allows the machine to select the correct grind size per product (e.g. espresso from origin A, lungo from origin B) without requiring manual switching. The A.G.A. Technology (Aroma-Preserve-Grinder) protects aroma molecules through gentle processing and prevents overheating of the coffee grounds in the grinding chamber.

Brewing uses the P.E.P. method (Pulse Extraction Process): multiple short extraction pulses optimise the coffee base for short drinks such as espresso and ristretto and extract significantly more aroma compounds than a continuous flow. For lungo and caffè crema, the machine uses standard flow. On the heating side, Generation II operates with two thermoblock heating systems and two separate pumps (one per circuit) at up to 15 bar – despite one instead of three heaters, the 2700 watts provides stable temperature under full load.

The milk system consists of the HP3 high-performance milk frothing system and the CX2 cooler for cold-foam variants. One-Touch milk cleaning automatically rinses the milk lines after every milk-based drink – without operator intervention. This process is TÜV Rheinland-certified and significantly reduces the risk of milk residue and bacterial growth.

On the connectivity side, the GIGA X8 offers Smart Connect (Bluetooth), WiFi, J.O.E. App (iOS/Android) for remote programming and individual drink parameter control, plus Pocket Pilot 2.0 as a remote handset. The Payment Connect module is optionally available and enables cashless payment via MDB interfaces. JURA Fleet Management (fleet administration software) can be integrated for multi-unit sites and allows centralised recipe and pricing management across multiple machines.

Drink Selection & Capacity

The JURA GIGA X8 in its second generation offers 32 hot drink specialities – from classic espresso and coffee variants (espresso, lungo, caffè barista, ristretto, caffè crema) through all standard milk specialities (cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato, cortado, caffè au lait) to cold-foam and iced-coffee products. For comparison: the original Generation I had only 29 specialities. All drinks can be individually customised (strength, temperature, volume, milk proportion) and saved as favourites on the touchscreen or via the J.O.E. App.

With two separate bean hoppers (650 g each), the operator can run two coffee varieties simultaneously – for example, a standard espresso blend and a lungo blend – and automatically select the correct hopper per drink choice. The machine decides which grinder is active based on the configured recipe; the operator does not need to switch manually.

JURA rates daily capacity at up to 200 cups; with a typical field mix of espresso, lungo and milk-based drinks, 150 to 180 cups represents realistic sustained throughput without overload. The grounds container holds 40 pucks (at 8g portions, approximately 40 cups) before emptying – operators must factor this into high-volume service. The drip tray is sized accordingly.

The GIGA X8 is clearly engineered for commercial operation with medium to high volume: canteen, hotel, office floor with ≥ 50 staff, lounge. For small operator or private use, it is oversized; for high-volume operation beyond 250 cups/day, dedicated throughput systems such as the WMF 5000 S+ make more sense.

Operation & Service

Operation of the GIGA X8 is regarded as exemplary in the sector. The 4.3-inch touchscreen with high-contrast display allows intuitive navigation even for untrained staff; via the J.O.E. App, the machine can be operated remotely from a smartphone and individually programmed. The 32 drinks are clearly categorised and can be reduced to favourites, so simple sites display only 5 to 10 drink tiles – without confusing full-menu navigation.

Automatic grind adjustment (I.P.B.A.S., Intelligent Pre-Brewing Aroma System) and the P.E.P. method ensure that even inexperienced staff produce consistent cup quality. One-Touch milk cleaning removes the critical hygiene task from staff; guided daily and weekly cleaning with standard JURA cleaning tablets keeps the rest of the system clean.

Regarding reliability in continuous operation: operators report stable uptime with the GIGA X8 when cleaning intervals are observed. The JURA service network across DACH is active; spare parts (brew group, seals, grinder discs) are available through authorised JURA dealers – an advantage over competitors with closed service models. Standard service calls cost €80 to €150 depending on region; full-maintenance contracts are available from approximately €50 to €80 per month.

Critically, the tank model (X8, 5 litres) requires refilling multiple times daily at high volume. Beyond 100 cups/day, the X8c with fixed-water connection is clearly preferable and should be planned for from the outset. Payment Connect for cashless payment is a paid optional module – for self-service sites, an unavoidable additional cost item that must not be overlooked in budgeting.

Performance & Power Consumption

Generation II of the GIGA X8 operates at 230 V ~, 2700 W, 10 A – a standard domestic circuit breaker suffices, which greatly simplifies installation and avoids costly electrical work. Compared to Generation I (1600 W), power has been significantly increased, resulting in shorter heat-up times and more stable temperature under full load.

The two thermoblock heating systems enable parallel heating of brew water and milk froth without mutual thermal interference – particularly relevant at peak load when multiple milk drinks are ordered in succession. Operating noise is acceptable for a dual-grinder professional machine and runs below 65 dB(A) during normal operation; the grinding cycle of the dual grinders is naturally louder.

JURA has integrated a sound energy concept into the GIGA X8: in eco mode, consumption reduces significantly, and after a configurable idle period, the machine powers down automatically. The EcoDrive protocol (configurable via J.O.E. App) allows further granular adjustment of the energy pattern based on time of day and site usage patterns. The ecoGrade rating of B reflects this balanced profile: more efficient than many competitors in the same performance tier.

Fresh water quality should be between 4 and 7 °dH; JURA recommends the Claris Smart+ filter for water treatment, which additionally extends descaling intervals. Operating temperature range is 15 to 35 degrees Celsius. IP rating is not specified for this device class – outdoor use without housing is not intended.

Pricing & Operating Costs

The JURA GIGA X8 is positioned in the upper premium tier, but more accessible than direct competitors in the top segment (WMF 5000 S+ from ~€12,250 net, Franke A800 from ~€15,000 net). New units cost gross between approximately €5,700 and €6,200 depending on dealer and configuration for the standard X8 with tank; the X8c (fixed-water connection, Type 749) is priced slightly higher. JURA's published net list price for the X8c is approximately €7,550 net (~€8,985 gross) according to dealer price lists, which significantly exceeds actual street prices.

On the used market, well-maintained Generation II units are available from approximately €1,500 to €2,500; Generation I machines (29 specialities, 1600 W) are cheaper but should be clearly identified as such because of different specifications and lack of updates. Lease options start at approximately €136 to €213 per month (36 to 60-month term).

For operating costs, the main items are consumption of JURA cleaning tablets (approx. 1 tablet daily) and occasional descaling agent; the tablets are standard and cheaper than proprietary cleaning products from some competitors. Wear parts (brew group approx. every 2 to 3 years, seals, grinder discs) are available through JURA service.

At realistic daily capacity of 150 cups, the investment amortises over a typical site life of three to four years – provided the machine runs at a good margin on raw coffee costs. Exact break-even can be individually modelled using the TCO calculator on this page. A full-maintenance contract (from approx. €50 to €80/month) increases monthly total cost but minimises downtime risk and provides planning certainty – particularly relevant for hotels and canteens dependent on continuous availability.

Frequently asked questions about JURA GIGA X8

What is the difference between JURA GIGA X8 and GIGA X8c?

The GIGA X8 (Type 748) has an internal 5-litre water tank; the GIGA X8c (Type 749) is designed for fixed-water connection (G3/8"). For sites with more than 100 cups/day, the X8c is clearly preferable.

Which generation is current and why does it matter?

Generation II (from 2023) has 2700 W, 2 thermoblock heating systems and 32 specialities (Type 748/749). Generation I had 3 thermoblock heating systems, 1600 W and only 29 specialities. Always check the type number when buying used – both generations look similar.

How does One-Touch milk cleaning work?

After every milk drink, the system automatically flushes the milk lines – without operator intervention. This process is TÜV Rheinland-certified and significantly reduces the risk of milk residue and bacterial growth. Guided daily cleaning remains necessary.

Is Payment Connect included in delivery?

No. Payment Connect (MDB interface for cashless payment) is a paid optional module that must be purchased and installed separately. J.O.E. App, Smart Connect and WiFi are standard.

Confusion risk: Is JURA X8 the same as GIGA X8?

No. JURA also sells a smaller private machine under "X8" (1 grinder, approx. 80 cups/day). The GIGA X8 is the professional unit with 2 grinders, 2700 W and 200 cups/day. Always check for the word "GIGA" in the model name.

What does a JURA service call cost?

A standard call costs €80 to €150 depending on region. Full-maintenance contracts are available from approximately €50 to €80 per month. Spare parts are available through authorised JURA dealers – more open than competitors with closed service models.

WMF 1100 S

WMF · Hot Drink Machines

WMF 1100 S

7.3Good

Up to 80 cups daily, 7-inch touchscreen display, and HACCP-capable cleaning protocols: the WMF 1100 S is a compact super-automatic espresso machine for offices with 20 to 60 employees. The unit measures 325 × 500 × 571 mm, weighs approx. 25.5 kg, and fits most kitchen counters without structural modification. The removable brewing unit processes a maximum of 15 g coffee grounds per brew and delivers consistent results; cleaning protocols can be exported via USB for HACCP documentation. Two operational limitations merit attention: the Basic Milk system draws milk via tube from an external cooler or milk carton, requiring more daily handling than an integrated refrigerated system. Additionally, WMF designates the 1100 S as discontinued—orderable only until 30.09.2026. New units cost €3,495 to €4,873 net depending on configuration; spread over five years, depreciation amounts to €699 to €975 annually, plus consumables and service charges. The machine suits operators seeking a low-maintenance office unit with HACCP documentation who do not operate high-throughput sites.

Rhea Luce Zero

Rheavendors · Hot Drink Machines

Rhea Luce Zero

7.2Good

The luce zero is a ladder with five rungs, and its strength is that the footprint remains constant across all tiers: 640 × 1,830 × 705 mm, regardless of specification. The purchasing decision hinges on a clear breaking point. Between zero.1 and zero.2, power doubles from 1,600 to 3,200 watts, cup dispensing stations increase from one to two, grinders from one to up to two, and only here does the Varitherm induction system become available—for which Rheavendors claims 85 percent energy savings versus a boiler. Practically speaking: the smaller tiers operate at approximately 7 amperes on a standard outlet; the larger ones require 14 amperes and a dedicated circuit. The documentation is the weak point—weight, water connection, cup capacity, daily and hourly throughput, and any maintenance specifications are not publicly available.

Schaerer Coffee Skye

8.5Very good

Compact premium fully automatic coffee machine from Swiss heritage brand Schaerer, designed for mid-volume locations up to approximately 180 cups/day: video-capable 8-inch touchdisplay with three operation modes, BestFoam milk system for hot and cold specialty beverages, and CoffeeLink telemetry. As a countertop unit with internal tank or mains water connection options, the Skye remains flexibly deployable — its capacity is deliberately sized for mid-volume locations, not high-volume operations.

Necta Koro Max

Necta · Hot Drink Machines

Necta Koro Max

6.8Good

330 mm cabinet width, genuine espresso brewer (Z3000 L, maximum 12 g dose) and eight beverage options including chocolate: the Necta Koro Max Prime by Evoca (Varese, IT) is designed for offices with 30 to 80 employees and small food-service locations with moderate daily demand up to approximately 50 vends. Mains-fed variant from approximately €3,105 net (All4Vending DE); tank version up to €4,429 net (NL market). Two structural limitations: milk capability is restricted to powder, with no fresh-milk system. Telemetry and remote service are absent, as this device predates the 2020 product generation. Door opening for refilling triggers a complete device restart. Service infrastructure across the DACH region is sparse; spare parts arrive via specialist retailers with 3 to 10 days lead time. For office locations without high-throughput demands and with in-house cleaning staff, the device is a solid offering. Locations with more than 80 vends daily or requiring digital service interfaces should evaluate current OCS models with connectivity.
