Our verdict

7.9Good

The Sielaff SiLine Snack and Combi is an operator machine, not a showcase vending machine. Three points distinguish it in its class: hydrocarbon refrigerant R 290 with a global warming potential of 3, telemetry capability with readout via USB and MDB plus fault indication on door opening, and Food-Safety software that prevents warm product dispensing in LM and 2T configurations. Additionally, a detail rarely documented by manufacturers: wheelchair mode in the 7-inch display. Standard delivery includes up to seven shelves with up to nine selections per shelf. Two specifications warrant review before ordering: product dimensions for slide compartments, which are tight at 72 and 78 millimetres width respectively, and empty weight of 300 to 340 kilograms on 0.70 square metres floor space. Sielaff publishes no list price.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Wheelchair mode and light/dark mode in the 7-inch display — at publicly accessible locations a feature typically sought after purchase.
  • Telemetry-capable with readout via USB and MDB; detected problems are displayed to the operator on door opening.
  • Three compartment types combinable: spirals standard, slide compartments for standing bottles and cans, belt compartments for bulky goods.
  • Runs on 220 to 230 volts with minimum 10 amperes — no three-phase connection required.
  • Compartment configuration easily changeable: automatic motor recognition with selection-number assignment, tool-free mountable components.
  • Refrigerant R 290 with a global warming potential of 3 — removes the question of phasing out fluorinated refrigerants.
  • Food-Safety software monitors temperatures in LM and 2T configurations and dispenses only properly cooled products.
  • Standard configuration up to seven shelves with up to nine selections per shelf, thus up to 63 selections in one machine.

Cons

  • Empty weight 300 kg (S) to 340 kg (M) on 0.70 square metres floor space; must be verified in advance on upper floors or timber-beam ceilings.
  • Belt compartments are available only in model M; anyone needing them later has purchased the wrong size in the S variant.
  • No public list price, and temperature management is a purchase decision that cannot be changed later.
  • The light curtain for monitoring product dispensing is standard on the Combi only, not on the pure snack machine.
  • Tight product dimensions in slide compartment: Combi S only 72 mm width at 265 mm height, Combi M 78 mm at 285 mm — and selection 2 per shelf only 250 mm height.
  • Energy efficiency class C according to Regulation (EU) 2019/2018 — documented, but unremarkable; annual consumption in kilowatt-hours is not stated in the brochure.

Review

Design and Structure: Two Widths, 300 to 340 Kilograms, Glass Front

Sielaff supplies the SiLine Snack and Combi in two sizes. The S variant measures 1,830 × 780 × 895 millimetres in height, width and depth and weighs approximately 300 kilograms without product. The M variant is at the same height and depth 990 millimetres wide and weighs approximately 340 kilograms. The brochure explicitly names 780 and 990 millimetres as the standard widths of the series; it lists no third width for Snack and Combi.

Weight is the value most often overlooked when selecting a location. 300 kilograms empty weight on a floor area of 0.70 square metres yields approximately 430 kilograms per square metre before product is loaded. In an existing building with timber-beam ceilings or on upper floors, this must be verified in advance, before delivery, not afterwards. Sielaff additionally points out that variations in cabinet dimensions through fittings and accessories are possible, and door opening is specified in the drawing at 130 degrees. Anyone placing the machine in an alcove requires this opening angle for restocking and servicing.

Cabinet and door are available in three RAL colours: Pure White RAL 9010, White Aluminium RAL 9006 and Deep Black RAL 9005. Beyond that, Sielaff distinguishes two design lines: VA with a stainless-steel lower design panel and RA with a RAL-colour painted panel, each optionally supplemented by design package A with LED decorative panel. This is more choice than this machine class typically offers, and at a visible location a genuine selling point.

The design is modular; product compartments and spirals consist of powder-coated metal, and the mounting area for payment systems is uniform across the series. Operators with multiple machines can exchange payment technology without device-specific modification. Sielaff explicitly describes the modularity as service-friendly and recyclable, and the machines are stackable, allowing them to be arranged in a row. For a location that starts with a snack machine and later needs a cold-drink machine beside it, this is the feature that makes the second purchase cost-effective.

Technology: 7-Inch Display, Wheelchair Mode and Telemetry via MDB

Operation is via a 7-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 × 480 pixels and LED backlighting. Behind it is PC technology with 200 megabytes of storage for images and video clips, expandable via USB stick. The display shows product images and product information, can play slideshows and videos, and allows ingredients, allergens and additional information to be stored per item. For operators who must display labelling requirements on the machine, this is the most practically important feature of the entire control unit.

Two functions target the receipt directly. The shopping-basket function allows bundled orders of up to five products in one transaction; the deal function allows two products to be selected as a menu offer. Neither is a gimmick: at a location with midday traffic, whether a customer must pay twice determines whether they buy a second item.

Two other display functions stand out positively because they are rarely documented: a light and dark mode and a wheelchair mode. The latter shifts operation to an accessible height and, at publicly accessible locations, is a feature typically sought retrospectively.

On the service side, the machine is unusually communicative. It automatically recognizes connected motors and assigns selection numbers simultaneously, so reconfiguring compartment layout requires minimal effort; adjacent motors can be synchronized to wider selections. Product compartment components are tool-free to mount. A central switch disconnects the machine from mains. All SiLine machines are telemetry-capable; data can be read via USB and via MDB at the machine. Cooling and power consumption are monitored, and detected problems are displayed to the operator when the door is opened. Hardware and software are mounted on a pull-out system.

Capacity: Up to Seven Shelves, Nine Selections Per Shelf, Three Compartment Types

Standard delivery includes up to seven shelves with up to nine selections per shelf. Arithmetically, that is up to 63 selections in one machine, and the brochure confidently calls the cooling space probably the highest in the industry. How many selections actually result depends on spiral choice: for each product, simple spirals, 1.5× wide selections or double spirals are used, and each widening consumes a selection.

Three compartment types are available, and they differ in what they can dispense. Spiral product compartments operate on a first-in-first-out principle, are quickly height-adjustable in small increments via the patent-pending 'SiClip'n turn' adjustment, and accept products up to a space diagonal of maximum 210 millimetres. Slide product compartments are optional and originate from glass-front beverage technology: bottles, cans and drink cartons stand upright in them rather than in spirals, which improves presentation and capacity. Maximum product dimensions are tight here and model-dependent: Combi S 72 millimetres width at 265 millimetres height, Combi M 78 millimetres width at 285 millimetres height. A footnote restricts further: in each slide shelf, selection 2 product height may not exceed 250 millimetres.

Belt product compartments are available only in model M. They are intended for products unsuitable for spiral or slide compartments, transport via food-safe belts to the front and carry maximum 12.5 kilograms per individual belt. They require a light curtain for dispensing, can be exchanged 1:1 for a slide compartment and configured as whole or mixed shelves.

For temperature, there are three configurations: standard snack cooling, 'LM' for food-safe storage and '2 T' with two temperature zones, where the position of separation between shelves is variably adjustable and determined by layout. The Sielaff Food-Safety software monitors temperatures in the LM range and ensures that only properly cooled products are dispensed. This is the function that transforms a snack machine into a device for fresh goods. If desired, the machine can also be configured with a pure beverage assortment or as an LM version for smoothies and fresh milk drinks; the containers then stand in slide compartments. Thus the same base machine covers three product categories that otherwise require three separate machines: dry snacks, beverages and chilled fresh goods.

Operation: R 290 with GWP 3, Efficiency Class C, 400 Watts

Cooling is via a low-maintenance, hermetically sealed system with electronically controlled high-performance pull-in cooling. For refrigerant, Sielaff specifies hydrocarbon refrigerant R 290 with a global warming potential of 3. This figure is reason to examine the machine from a regulatory standpoint: equipment using fluorinated refrigerants faces increasing phase-out pressure; a GWP of 3 removes this question from consideration. To this is added overheat protection and a cooling circuit optimized through insulation, large floor filters and an air outlet opening.

For energy, the brochure specifies 400 watts power consumption for both sizes, explicitly noting that the value varies depending on cooling. The electrical connection is straightforward: 220 to 230 volts, 50 hertz, minimum 10 amperes. This means the machine runs on a standard socket with its own circuit breaker; no three-phase power required. Energy labelling is performed, according to the brochure, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2019/2018, and Sielaff specifies energy efficiency class C for both sizes. The class is thus documented, but unremarkable, and annual consumption in kilowatt-hours is not stated in the brochure; Sielaff refers to a separate energy labelling page for this.

Savings can be achieved through programming. Cooling and lighting are freely programmable; an eco-mode reduces consumption at night or on weekends; also included are energy-saving fans, insulated glazing of laminated safety glass and LED interior lighting.

Product dispensing is locked and tamper-proof with airlock function; the dispensing drum runs fully automatic. A light curtain monitors product dispensing and is standard on the Combi; on the pure snack machine, it is therefore not standard. For beverage and belt compartment shelves, Sielaff additionally recommends the patent-pending lift system, which gently dispenses glass bottles, carbonated beverages and delicate products. Anyone selling glass should search for this item in quotes: it determines breakage and thus complaints. For LM and 2T configurations, Sielaff recommends fresh-goods lighting so that meat, sausages and smoothies are better illuminated. Maintenance is image-guided on the display, and it presents errors in detail.

Price: No List Price, and Configuration Determines Value

Sielaff publishes no price for the SiLine Snack and Combi. Neither the German nor the English brochure states a figure, and the product page carries no price. Anyone wishing to calculate needs a quote, and this page passes on no figures that cannot be substantiated.

More revealing is the question of which decisions drive price, and for this machine those are not the usual ones. Size is only the first step: between S at 780 and M at 990 millimetres width lie 210 millimetres of front and approximately 40 kilograms. The second and more expensive step is temperature management. Standard snack cooling, LM configuration and 2T configuration are three different machines in one datasheet, and only the latter two allow fresh goods with Food-Safety software. The third step is compartment configuration: spirals are standard, slide compartments and belt compartments are options, and belt compartments are available only in model M. The fourth step is the lift system, which Sielaff recommends for beverage and belt compartment shelves.

This sequence is important because later changes are not equally simple everywhere. Compartment configuration can be changed with minimal effort thanks to automatic motor recognition and tool-free components; a belt compartment exchanges 1:1 for a slide compartment. Size and temperature management, however, are purchase decisions.

What justifies this machine over simpler spiral units are three points, all related not to sales but to operation: R 290 as refrigerant with a GWP of 3, telemetry capability via USB and MDB plus fault indication on door opening, and Food-Safety software that prevents warm product dispensing. Anyone selling only bars and packets needs little of this. Anyone with fresh goods, glass bottles or an unattended public location buys precisely these three things.

Publicly verifiable operator statements on durability and service quality could not be found, neither from the manufacturer nor in reviewed sources; the section therefore remains empty rather than filled with quotations.

Azkoyen Palma H87 Combi

Azkoyen · Snack & Combo Machines

Azkoyen Palma H87 Combi

7.4Good

The Azkoyen Palma+ H87 is a true combination unit and not a snack machine with a beverage compartment: Azkoyen breaks down the 300 units into 212 snacks, 40 sandwiches and 48 cans or bottles, and cites 589 litres of usable capacity via the energy label. It is cooled with R290 to 3 degrees, explicitly measured at 32 degrees ambient. Vend control via I-Detect, six direct-select buttons and the open protocols EXE, MDB and EVA-DTS are included, plus triple-glazed front glass and a specified door pass-through of 70 centimetres. Two manufacturer specifications exist for consumption and conflict with each other: label 2,211 kilowatt-hours, idle-load extrapolation 2,812. This yields 641 to 956 euros in electricity costs per year before any product is sold. Per litre, the H87 is more energy-efficient than the smaller H70.

Sielaff SN48

Sielaff · Snack & Combo Machines

Sielaff SN48

7.9Good

With 48 selections, five or six levels and chilled dispensing, the Sielaff SN48 is a combination vending machine for snacks, drinks and, depending on the variant, fresh products. At a site with around 30 to 120 employees, it can cover basic refreshments between canteen service times. It is designed for indoor use. The cabinet measures 880 × 1,830 × 840 mm and weighs 265 kg without products, according to the manufacturer. Notable strengths include R290 refrigerant with a GWP of 3, energy consumption of 2,144 kWh per 24 hours, and MDB and EVA-DTS support. Its drawbacks include the lack of published standby power consumption and an unverified noise level. The specific cashless payment method must be confirmed before ordering. The researched net base price is approximately EUR 5,000, rounded. A reliable ROI assessment depends on sales, replenishment frequency, selling prices and service costs. With regular use by 30 to 120 employees, the SN48 is more likely to be cost-effective than at small sites with irregular demand.
