Our verdict
8.6Very good
Frozen-product spiral vending machine operating at –18 °C with 180 product positions for ice cream, frozen food and chilled beverages. Excels through high capacity and robust construction; energy consumption and the older refrigerant R404a are the main weaknesses.

Review
Design & Construction
The SandenVendo G-Frozen is a floor-standing machine for frozen products designed for continuous operation at –18 °C. The white steel cabinet is robust and intended for semi-public deployment; vandalism protection is not an explicit design goal, but the construction withstands everyday wear and tear. The insulated double-glazed window retains the cold reliably while maintaining product visibility. Visually, the unit is functional and timeless — a design award is not the aim; operational reliability is.
Capacity & Assortment
180 product positions across configurable spiral columns position the G-Frozen at the top end of the capacity spectrum in the frozen-product segment. The assortment can range from classic ice lollies and ice cream cups to frozen prepared meals, frozen yogurt and desserts. The spiral width is designed for standard frozen-product packaging up to 120 mm; products in wider standard packages may not fit depending on column configuration.
Technology & Functions
MDB standard enables connection of all mainstream payment terminals — from simple coin acceptors to contactless card and mobile payment terminals. An integrated temperature sensor triggers a local alarm when the –15 °C threshold is exceeded; optionally, a GSM module can relay the alert via SMS. Firmware updates are performed via USB stick at an easily accessible port — no network access required.
Operation & Service
Sites with high frozen-product throughput — swimming pools, sports facilities, railway stations, airports — benefit from the high spiral capacity and rapid restocking cycles. The defrost cycle is time-controlled and pauses vending during the defrost cycle (approximately 20 minutes, 1–2 times daily). SandenVendo maintains a Europe-wide service network with certified partner companies in Germany; response times vary by region.
Performance & Energy
Frozen-product machines are energy-intensive; the G-Frozen consumes approximately 6–8 kWh per 24 hours of continuous operation, which is average for the segment but notably higher than cold-beverage or ambient machines. The R404a refrigerant (GWP 3,922) is still legal in operation today but will be progressively restricted from 2025 onwards through F-gas regulations. SandenVendo offers an EC variant with R452a (GWP ~2,140) for new installations from 2025 onwards, which we recommend for future procurement.
Price & Operating Costs
Entry-level pricing starts at approximately €6,490; fully featured variants with GSM telemetry and enhanced temperature monitoring cost up to €10,000. The largest ongoing cost driver is energy consumption: at an average electricity rate of €0.30/kWh, annual electricity costs are approximately €730–880 — a factor that must be considered in site evaluation. Sites achieving throughput exceeding 50 units per day typically amortize the machine investment within 12 to 18 months.

Frequently asked questions about SandenVendo G-Frozen
What products can be vended in the SandenVendo G-Frozen?
Ice lollies, ice cream cups, frozen yogurt, frozen prepared meals and any frozen products with packaging up to 120 mm wide.
What is the energy consumption?
In continuous operation, approximately 6–8 kWh per 24 hours. At €0.30/kWh, this amounts to approximately €730–880 in annual electricity costs.
What about the R404a refrigerant?
R404a has a high GWP of 3.922 and is being restricted by the EU F-gas regulation. For new installations from 2025 onwards, we recommend the EC variant with R452a.
How long does a defrost cycle take?
Approximately 20 minutes, 1–2 times daily. Vending is paused during the defrost cycle — this should be considered in planning.
Is there temperature monitoring and alarm capability?
Yes — an integrated temperature sensor triggers a local alarm whenever the –15 °C threshold is exceeded. Optionally, alerts can be sent via SMS through the GSM module.
