Locker Machine

Term from the vending glossary

Locker machine for secure, controlled dispensing of goods (medicines, tools, mobile devices, food). Each compartment is individually electronically secured; access via PIN, QR code or NFC card. Deployed in pharmacies, hospitals and industrial facilities.

Locker machines do not dispense goods from a compartment but rather open a single unit — for a parcel, an order, a tool or a key handover. The process is therefore not a sale but a handover between two parties who need not be present at the same time.

This leads to different evaluation logic compared to vending machines: compartment size mix, occupancy duration and the question of how a compartment is released if the recipient does not arrive. In industrial facilities, lockers increasingly replace the porter's lodge as a handover location because they function outside of service hours.
