Telemetry
Term from the vending glossary
Remote monitoring of vending machines via mobile or LAN: fill levels, malfunctions, temperature and sales in real-time. Reduces empty runs and shortens response times.
Telemetry modules are connected to the vending machine via the DEX interface and typically transmit data every 15–60 minutes over GPRS/LTE to the backend. Modern systems (Nayax, Vendon, Crane Payment Innovations) additionally transmit real-time events: transaction abort, counterfeit currency, door open.
An EVA-DTS-compatible data stream enables manufacturer-independent analysis in the VMS. The ROI from telemetry typically stands at 6–18 months: empty runs decline by 20–35 %, sales increase by 10–20 % through improved restocking.
