API Interface (Vending)
Term from the vending glossary
A standardized programming interface that enables vending management systems to exchange data with ERP, accounting, or inventory management systems. It automates invoicing, inventory integration, and reporting, eliminating manual data entry. Market standard: REST APIs with OAuth 2.0.
An interface is the agreed protocol by which two systems exchange data — in vending, typically between telemetry platform, inventory management, and accounting. Without it, sales figures are exported as spreadsheets, passed along, and eventually entered by hand.
When evaluating an API, three factors matter: what data it exposes, how current that data is, and whether usage is included in your contract or charged separately. The third point is most often overlooked — and it determines whether the integration remains cost-effective.
