Accessibility Strengthening Act — as of June 2025, self-service terminals and vending machines with cashless payment must be accessible (reach height, contrast, audio feedback).
The BFSG implements EU Directive 2019/882 (European Accessibility Act) into German law. For vending machines, this specifically means: Touchscreens and keypads must be reachable at a maximum operating height of 120 cm, contrast ratios according to WCAG 2.1 Level AA must be met, and audio or tactile feedback must be provided.
Manufacturers and operators share responsibility: Manufacturers must provide compliant devices, operators must install them correctly. Newly installed devices must be BFSG-compliant from 28 June 2025; existing legacy devices are grandfathered until 2030.
