Eco-Mode
Term from the vending glossary
Energy-saving operation mode for vending machines: Reduces heating output, lighting and display brightness during non-peak hours. Savings vary by machine type and operating schedule—typically 200–500 kWh/year, equating to approximately 55–140 EUR and 60–150 kg CO₂ per machine per year at 0.28 EUR/kWh.
Eco-Mode reduces consumption during off-peak periods: lighting off, cooling set to a higher target temperature, boiler reduced or shut down, wake-up on schedule or motion detection. For machines powered continuously, this represents the single largest efficiency gain.
Product integrity and service availability set practical limits. Refrigerated units with fresh stock cannot exceed safe holding temperatures, and a coffee machine requiring five minutes to restart after night shutdown cannot serve the first break. Configuration should follow the location's sales schedule, not factory defaults. EN 50597 establishes the standardized test method for comparing vending machine energy consumption.
