Instant-coffee vending machine
Term from the vending glossary
Hot-beverage vending machine that uses soluble powder instead of fresh beans. Simpler maintenance and lower acquisition costs, but reduced coffee quality. Widespread in high-volume canteens or as a cost-effective alternative.
Instant vending machines dissolve instant coffee, milk and chocolate powder in hot water. Without a grinder, brew unit and spent grounds, cleaning requirements are significantly lower, and preparation takes only a few seconds — both reasons why the system is more widespread at high-volume sites with minimal servicing than its reputation would suggest.
The distinction lies in beverage quality expectations. For operators who view coffee as part of the location experience, a fresh-brew system is essential. For secondary locations, night-shift operations and sites without on-site service coverage, the instant vending machine is conversely the more robust solution.
